Series: Family Matters
The emotionally healthy family recognizes that unaddressed emotions and behaviors are often passed down through generations. Families are emotional systems that shape how we relate to the world, but through emotional intelligence (EQ) and spiritual transformation, we can break unhealthy patterns. While we inherit traits from our families of origin, our true destiny is shaped by God, as shown in 2 Corinthians 5:17 and Ephesians 4:22-24. To become emotionally healthy, we must put off old habits and adopt new ones, becoming approachable, self-aware, connected, responsible, non-reactive, self-giving, honest, and forgiving. Joseph's story in Genesis 50 exemplifies how forgiveness and transformation can lead to healing within a family. Ultimately, we must go back to understand our past in order to move forward in emotional health.
